NorthShore University Health System
Challenge:
NorthShore University Health System faced the challenge of integrating video conferencing across its four affiliate hospitals (Evanston, Glenbrook, Highland Park, and Skokie) and a research institute, as well as meeting the increased demand for video conferencing due to its affiliation with the University of Chicago. They needed a robust solution that could facilitate efficient communication, collaboration, and teaching across multiple locations while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Solution:
Initially introduced to IDS in 2003, NorthShore deployed Tandberg video conferencing solutions across its hospitals, each equipped with integrated systems including multiple cameras, Tandberg 6000 MXP units, and wireless AMX touch panels. IDS also provided mobile video conferencing systems for flexible use within hospitals and a Tandberg Multisite Conference Unit (MCU) for complex multisite calls. As needs expanded with the addition of Skokie Hospital and the University of Chicago affiliation in 2009, IDS integrated a combination of Tandberg and Lifesize video conferencing systems. They also implemented a firewall traversal solution from Tandberg to enable seamless communication across their network firewall, ensuring secure transmission of sensitive medical information.
